On behalf of the Community Hub, we would like to acknowledge with great sadness the passing of Kaumatua George Taua, Te Kawerau ā Maki’s much loved oldest member.

‘Uncle George’s’ tangi service will be on Rāmere (Friday, 20^th June,  Matariki Holiday) at 10am:

We have consulted iwi/Kaumatua George’s family on whether to go ahead with our Matariki event, and they have encouraged us, inviting us to  ‘Call his name and send beautiful thoughts up to Matariki.’

We will have a special Remembrance time as part of the proceedings.

Me te aroha tino nui atu - to the Taua whānau and all of Te Kawerau ā Maki.

We know many locals will be at the tangi, and our hearts and thoughts are with you.
