About ERG

The ERG is a group of local volunteers from the Te Henga (Bethells Beach) & Waitākere Valley Area that have come together to help plan and organise our local response and increase our local resilience in the case of emergency: Cyclones, Storms, Earthquakes, Tsunami, Floods, Volcanic eruptions, Wild Fires, and Epidemics.

We are not a part of the council’s Civil Defence Emergency Management team; we aim to work with them and other organisations in times of need.

The Waitākere River Valley is divided into zones, and each zone has one ‘ERG Rep’, a local volunteer who represents their neighbourhood. The main task of the zone rep is to gather knowledge about their zone, (who lives there, who may be able to help, who may be vulnerable, what resources are available in the zone?) and to enable communication within their zone. This person becomes an ERG point of contact for residents in that zone. In an emergency event a zone rep will be tasked with communicating information both to zone residents and back to the ERG. They will also gather helpers and delegate tasks as needed. In any emergency communication is key. What is the situation in your zone? What help is needed and where?

Visit the following pages in this menu for local information to help guide you prepare for different kinds of emergency events in our area.

Who is involved?

This members-only page lists contact details for Zone Reps for 2025.
