All are welcome to a Community Tree Planting, now scheduled for Sunday, 16th August, 10 am. Te Henga Reserve, opposite 232 Bethells Rd. Hosted by Beachcare, in conjunction with the Community Hub. The Beachcare group have been quietly restoring local nature for over 30 years, which is quite a record! Many locals are unaware of the work they’ve done (unless you were lucky enough to hear the panel discussion with Derek March and Mark Bellingham at Matariki). Yet we’ve all benefitted from their mahi and have probably sat under a tree they planted at some point! The group are now needing some keen younger people to start to pass the baton to, to ensure that the community stays as kaitiaki of these important areas. So, if you’d like to be part of keeping Te Henga green, get your gummies on, and come along on 9th, to be inspired around what you can do for your local environment! NB It’s a good one for tamariki (children) too, to let them experience being part of the positive, uplifting atmosphere that comes from being part of such a community initiative. Please bring your own gloves and spade if possible! N.B. We are lucky enough to have received a $500 grant 'Love your Neighbourhood' grant for this event, from EcoMatters. This grant is open to all, and very easy to apply for so if you have an ecologically oriented event you would like to run, take a look at their site to apply. Big thanks to EcoMatters, (assisted by Waitakere Ranges Local Board), for supporting our Community Tree Planting with this funding.
